The market in figures
Ad Competition Index
73.8/ 100
Rank 175 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 64 of the 400 markets we cover. A higher score means more local businesses are competing for the same searches. See the method
We grade every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many ad-heavy local businesses (like lawyers, dentists, contractors, agents and similar) compete for the same customers. Anchorage scores 73.8, which is more crowded than most.
Two things stand out: Anchorage is a city whose population is flat or shrinking, and it is also a high-income city. The eight measures that follow place it among every other county.
The bars place Anchorage against all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Sources: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
What stands out
Anchorage has slipped 1.8% in population since the 2020 Census, a weaker trend than 87% of comparable counties, and now has 286,075 residents. In a market without a consistent stream of newcomers, growth has to come from winning customers who already have a provider, which puts more weight on your offer, your reviews and your landing page.
Because Anchorage is a compact city with 286,075 residents, geography is a matter of ZIP codes and distance rather than town names. We set the service area around the places you actually work.
Housing demand
Housing units authorized by building permits. Data: U.S. Census Bureau Building Permits Survey (annual files by county, plus a year-to-date comparison of identical months). Permits count homes approved to be built, not homes completed.
Anchorage authorized 1,133 housing units in 2021 and 278 in 2025, about 75% fewer; 2025 still works out to 9.7 units per 10,000 residents, less than in 82% of counties. From January through August, 160 units have been permitted, compared with 148 a year earlier (+8.1%).
In Anchorage, the construction-linked categories already busiest are real estate agents and brokers (2.3x typical) and roofing contractors (2.0x typical). Every new household needs contractors, insurers, agents and providers, so construction-linked categories feel any swing in permits first. If you work in that space, a shift in permits is worth acting on before the busy stretch begins.
Who else is in the auction
This table compares Anchorage with the typical U.S. county, category by category: the count per 10,000 residents, the change over time, and how many locations are bigger operations.
Crowding = employer locations per 10,000 residents divided by the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Figures are establishments from the Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which is not the same as active advertisers. See the method
In Anchorage, the law offices category is the most crowded, with 211 locations at 2.6 times the typical density; the count is down 17.6% since 2017. Real estate agents and brokers (164 locations, 2.3x) and accounting and CPA firms (79 locations, 2.3x) also sit above a normal county. At the other end, the insurance agencies and brokerages category (83 locations) is below typical density at 0.8x, which can mean more room to win a strong position.
Residential remodelers grew fastest, up 52.1% since 2017 to 146 locations. Insurance agencies and brokerages went the other way, down 17.8% to 83 locations. The biggest operators sit in physicians offices: 38 of 250 locations have 20 or more employees.
The figures show the competition, not click prices. Click costs come from keywords, ad quality, landing pages and timing, so treat a crowded category as a signal to plan well and a quiet one as an opening, not as a quote.

The process
We build your campaign from a strong base: landing pages made to convert, keywords, ads, ad extensions and tracking for calls, forms and sales.
Your campaign goes live and we optimize regularly, cutting wasted clicks with negative keywords, refining bids and steering toward better leads.
We lean into the ad groups that are working and try broader keywords so your calls keep growing.
Optimization continues, and we reduce your monthly management fee as your account grows, so your return keeps rising.

Our management fee is flat: $895 a month for one platform, $1,595 for two and $2,295 for three, and there is no long-term contract. Ad spend is separate, paid straight to Google, Bing or Meta.
Start from your own economics rather than a rule of thumb: the calculator above converts your profit per customer and close rate into the most you can pay per lead. In Anchorage, law offices (2.6x) and real estate agents and brokers (2.3x) are denser than a typical county, so if you are in one of those categories plan for a busier auction. We size the budget with you before launch and scale as results come in.
More than most. Anchorage scores 73.8 on our Ad Competition Index, ranking 175th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 64th of the 400 markets we cover. Law offices leads on density, at 2.6 times the typical county. Crowding does not rule ads out; it makes targeting and landing pages matter more.
Across the twelve ad-heavy categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Anchorage are physicians offices (250), law offices (211) and real estate agents and brokers (164). Measured against a typical county, the most crowded are law offices (2.6x) and real estate agents and brokers (2.3x). A large or crowded category does not settle whether ads will work for you; it shows how many other businesses may be bidding on the same searches.
It varies. Some accounts hear the phone ring on day one, and others need two to four weeks of tuning, more so in busy categories like law offices. We check the searches that triggered your ads early and exclude those that do not suit your business.
Anchorage has 286,075 residents, −1.8% since the 2020 Census, and 278 housing units were permitted in 2025 (9.7 per 10,000 residents). A shrinking population means most new customers have to be won from competitors. Either way, ads reach the people searching now, and that is why these trends inform the budgets we set.
Yes. We can target by ZIP code or by a radius around your location, so your ads run in the parts of Anchorage you actually serve and not across the whole city.
We do. On top of Google Ads, we run Bing ads and Meta ads, which run on Facebook and Instagram. Google tends to be the first platform because searchers are ready to act; Bing adds a second search audience, and Facebook and Instagram reach people before they search. The fee depends on how many platforms you run: $895, $1,595 or $2,295 a month.
There is no contract; you can cancel anytime. You work with one dedicated account manager and get monthly reporting on the calls, forms and sales your campaign produces.
