The market in numbers
Ad Competition Index
53.5/ 100
Ranked 740 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and also 273 of the 400 markets we cover. The higher the score, the more local businesses are competing for the same searches. See the method
We score every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many ad-heavy local businesses (including lawyers, dentists, contractors, agents and similar) compete for its residents. Harris County scores 53.5, which is close to the middle of the pack.
What defines Harris County is not the score alone. It is a county with an unusually high share of bigger (20+ employee) businesses in ad-heavy categories, and it is a county with heavy new home construction for its size. Eight measures below show where it stands among all counties.
The bars place Harris County alongside all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Sources: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
Communities
These are the largest places in Harris County by resident count. You can aim a campaign at any of these places, or at ZIP codes and a radius around your location.

| Baytown (part) | 79,140 | 2% |

What stands out
Competition in Harris County skews larger than in most counties. Of 18,503 employer locations in the twelve ad-heavy categories we track (2022 data), 7.5% have 20 or more employees, a higher share than 92% of counties. Locations that size are the ones most likely to have someone in charge of marketing and to keep ads running all year, so a small Harris County business often bids against a much larger one.
Harris County has 4,835,125 residents, which ranks 3rd of 3,143 U.S. counties, and the headcount has shifted +2.2% since the 2020 Census.
The biggest places in Harris County are Houston (2,265,027), Pasadena (146,716), Baytown (79,140), La Porte (36,991) and Deer Park (33,176). Some of these cities extend into neighboring counties, so the numbers are the portion inside this county. We can aim by city, by ZIP code or by a radius around your location, so clicks stay on the side of the county you actually serve.
43% of residents (2,066,903 people) live outside any incorporated place. Radius and ZIP targeting reach them where city-only targeting would not.
Who else is in the auction
Each category's employer locations are divided by population and compared with the median county. A reading of 2.0x means twice as many locations per resident as a typical county.
Crowding is employer locations per 10,000 residents relative to the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Counts are establishments from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), not a count of active advertisers. How we calculate this
In Harris County, the law offices category is the most crowded, with 3,160 locations at 2.3 times the typical density; the count is up 6.6% since 2017. Physicians offices (3,716 locations, 1.9x) and dentists (2,279 locations, 1.7x) also sit above a normal county. At the other end, the landscaping services category (677 locations) is below typical density at 0.4x, which can mean more room to win a strong position.
Residential remodelers grew fastest, up 56.4% since 2017 to 887 locations. Physicians offices went the other way, down 4.5% to 3,716 locations. The biggest operators sit in electrical contractors: 176 of 807 locations have 20 or more employees.
The figures show the competition, not click prices. Click costs come from keywords, ad quality, landing pages and timing, so treat a crowded category as a signal to plan well and a quiet one as an opening, not as a quote.

| Bexar County, TX | 46.9 | 2,087,679 | +3.9% | +9.2% | 27.5 |
The six look-alikes are the counties in our 400-market set that sit closest to this one on size, income, growth, construction and ad-business density. Sources as above.
Clark County, NV is the closest match, scoring 53.7 against Harris County's 53.5. Miami-Dade County, FL is the furthest from it, scoring 74.8. Bexar County, TX builds far less per resident (27.5 against 63.9 permits per 10,000 residents) despite similar overall competition. Already advertising in one of these places? The comparison shows how similar the competition is; it does not predict your results.
Demand signal
Units authorized by building permits. Source: the Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey (annual files by county, plus a year-to-date comparison of identical months). Permits count homes approved to be built, not homes completed.
Harris County authorized 38,789 housing units in 2022 and 30,879 in 2025, about 20% fewer; 2025 still works out to 63.9 units per 10,000 residents, more than in 82% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 18,596 against 20,327 a year earlier (−8.5%).
In Harris County, the construction-linked categories already busiest are real estate agents and brokers (1.4x typical) and insurance agencies and brokerages (1.1x typical). New households need contractors, insurers, agents and providers, so construction-linked categories feel any swing in permits first. If you are in one of them, a turn in permits is a reason to review your budget before the busy stretch, not after.
The process
We set up your campaign on a solid foundation: pages built to turn clicks into calls, keywords, ads, extensions and tracking for calls, forms and sales.
Your campaign goes live and we optimize regularly, adding negative keywords, tightening bids and raising lead quality.
We focus on the high-performing ad groups and test wider keyword sets to bring in more calls than before.
The tuning never stops, and we lower your monthly management fee as your account grows, to increase your return.
Beyond Google Search
Paid search
Put your business first on Google when Harris County customers search for what you offer. You pay when they click.
Paid social
Paid social campaigns on Facebook and Instagram, run through Meta's ad platform, for the people in Harris County who are not searching yet but would buy if they saw you.
Microsoft Ads
Reach searchers who use Bing, Microsoft Edge and Microsoft's partner network rather than Google.
Same idea, different names
Whether you call it Google Ads, PPC, pay-per-click, Facebook ads, Instagram ads or paid ads, it means the same thing: you pay when someone clicks, and we manage the campaign for Harris County businesses on one flat plan.
Most clients start with Google Ads, where intent is highest, and add Facebook and Instagram or Bing once the first campaign is working. One account manager runs all of them.
Plans

Check the math
Your break-even is your own. Tell the calculator what a new customer is worth and how often a lead turns into one, and it will show your break-even cost per lead, the customers needed to cover each month, and how your own cost-per-lead guess compares.
Common questions
Our management fee is flat: $895 a month for one platform, $1,595 for two and $2,295 for three, with nothing long-term to sign. Ad spend is separate, paid straight to Google, Bing or Meta.
Begin with your own economics, not a rule of thumb: the calculator above converts your profit per customer and close rate into the most you can pay per lead. In Harris County, law offices (2.3x) and physicians offices (1.9x) are denser than a typical county, so if you are in one of those categories plan for a busier auction. We agree on a budget with you before launch and scale it as results come in.
About average. Harris County scores 53.5 on our Ad Competition Index, ranking 740th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 273rd of the 400 markets we cover. Law offices is the densest category here, at 2.3 times the typical county. That calls for consistency: steady campaigns can take positions that would be fought over in a larger market.
Across the twelve ad-heavy categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Harris County are physicians offices (3,716), law offices (3,160) and dentists (2,279). Measured against a typical county, the most crowded are law offices (2.3x) and physicians offices (1.9x). Size and crowding in a category do not decide whether ads work for you; it shows how many other businesses may be bidding on the same searches.
It varies. Some accounts hear the phone ring on day one, and others need two to four weeks of tuning, notably in busy categories like law offices. Early on we review which searches triggered your ads and exclude the ones that do not fit your business.
Harris County has 4,835,125 residents, +2.2% since the 2020 Census, and 30,879 housing units were permitted in 2025 (63.9 per 10,000 residents). With little population change, new customers are mostly people who already have a provider and must be given a reason to switch. Whichever way it goes, ads reach the people who are searching today, which is why we watch these trends when we set budgets.
Yes. We can target by city (Houston, Pasadena, Baytown, La Porte and others), by ZIP code or by a radius around your location. Roughly 43% of residents live outside any incorporated place, and radius targeting is frequently how we reach them.
Yes. In addition to Google Ads, we handle Bing ads and Meta ads, which run on Facebook and Instagram. Google usually comes first because searchers are ready to act; Bing gives you a second search audience while Facebook and Instagram reach people ahead of their search. Pricing follows the platform count: $895, $1,595 or $2,295 a month.
You can cancel anytime, since there is no contract. One dedicated account manager runs your account, and each month you see the calls, forms and sales it produced.
